    South 85 Journal accepts general submissions from January 15 to April 15 for its Summer issue through Submittable. Manuscripts should be sent as an attachment. Fiction submissions should be between 2,000 and 5,000 words. Please include the word count in an upper corner of the first page. For fiction that is under 850 words, please consider submitting during our yearly flash fiction contest. Nonfiction submissions should be no longer than 6,000 words. Please include the word count in your email. Poetry submissions should contain no more than 4 poems up to 8 total pages, one poem per page. See full details on our website or Submittable page.

    South 85 Journal seeks Poetry and Flash Fiction submissions for its summer Julia Peterkin Literary contest through August 1. One winner in each genre will receive a cash prize of $500 and four runners-up in each genre will be named and published alongside the winning selection in the Fall/Winter issue of South 85 Journal.   • Update Your Submission Calendar – South 85 Journal

    Update your calendars—South 85 Journal has announced they’ve changed their reading general reading periods. They’ll now be reading from February 1 to April 16, and August 1 to October 15, though this is subject to change in the future. For now, make note and get your subs ready for August.

    Or, if you’ve already been polishing your poetry and flash fiction and are looking for somewhere to submit, submissions for the Julia Peterkin Poetry & Flash Fiction Contests are now open until August 1. Marlin Barton will judge the flash fiction submissions, and Denis Duhamel will judge the poetry.
